BLONDIE
BUZZ CHICK
Beccy J., Waterloo, Iowa
I was diagnosed 8/99 with
Ductal Carcinoma, Stage 1, node negative. I was 36 years old.
Everyone kept telling me the lump I found was probably nothing
because I was too young to have Breast Cancer. I had no family
history etc. Finally, after a Doctor's exam, Mammogram and then an
Ultrasound they felt it necessary to biopsy it. I had a lumpectomy,
4 chemo A/C, 33 radiations and started good ole Tamoxifen.
I have always said I only had two
things going for me. I had long natural strawberry blonde hair, and
I can sing well. Right after my first chemo I got my hair cut short.
People told me it would be less traumatic. When it was down to
straggles, I went in and had them Buzz me. It was all gone and I was
devastated. At that time if one more person would have told me it
will grow back, I was going to knock them down and shave their head.
I was told it might grow back a different color and it might be
curly instead of straight, blah, blah, blah! Well, it did grow in a
different color and it came back curly, that is until it got longer.
My natural strawberry blonde hair was now more a light brown.
After discussing with my husband
how I was feeling, he told me to go and get it colored. I could not
believe my ears. I use to tease him that he had the best of both
worlds, he had a blonde and he didn't have to pay to keep me that
way. After talking it over with my best friend Annette, I decided to
try it. Annette came over with a home kit and away we went. I know
this may sound funny, but I was devastated, again, until I took the
towel off and saw my strawberry blonde hair again. Now every few
months, I go to a shop for maintenance, so to speak.
I have learned a lot since then. I
know I have more things going for me then just my hair and my voice.
I have strength, faith, and the unconditional love of family,
friends & co-workers. Thank you dear lord!
Thank you for
sharing, Blondie Buzz Chick!
